Kings Road Park, a heavily used garden oasis in a densely populated portion of West Hollywood, has recently completed a new art installation created by Brickstone which links its historical background with its aspirations for the future as a diversified and forward thinking city. As you enter this 26,000 square foot pocket park and travel down the meandering paths, strolling by the beautiful 100-year old specimen trees and colorful plantings, you catch glimpses of the all white Walter Luther Dodge House Art Wall.  Set in a concave wall the base relief sculpture depicts the Dodge House and its gardens, built in 1916, by notable architect Irving J. Gill, which was situated just south of the park site, but unfortunately destroyed in 1970.  Brickstone has created two panels that reflect the smooth tilt-up concrete structure that was the trademark of Gill’s architectural style.  The fine quality of the sculpting accentuates the details of the house and plant materials, creating shadows that accentuate both the architectural and landscape features; the uniform white color allows visitors to focus on these details. Along with additional signage, these panels provide an opportunity to highlight the history of this section of West Hollywood and Kings Road by giving special recognition to this significant estate.
