A client in Northern Virginia contacted Brickstone Studios about making a custom fireplace for their newly built home. They are surrounded by an acre or so of land, which is loaded with interesting foliage and wanted to somehow convey this botanical theme onto their fireplace design. Our graphic designer worked with them on some drawings of vines to go up the sides of the fireplace legs and a small botanical element on the keystone. After many emails with different sketches and photos, we then finalized the design and got our sculptor working on it. We have emailed lots of photos of these vines now that they had dimension in clay form, and our client was very pleased with them. We then made tooling from the sculpt and proceeded to cast it in stone (GFRC-glass fiber reinforced concrete). This client has chosen a very "old world" look in Almond Ivory...with tiny cracks and holes, so the end result has lots of interesting texture. We'll post another blog soon showing the end result. Although we have over 30 styles of fireplace designs to choose from, from time to time we get a client who wants something very unique and personalized. We welcome this custom design challenge. A cast stone fireplace really increases the value of your home. It becomes the focal point of the room and a very cozy, intimate gathering place that adds an inviting ambiance.
